Neuro-Anatomical Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a method of treating acute and chronic painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system as well as other conditions such as respiratory, cardiovascular, gastroenterological, neurological, gynecological, urological, skin and mental disorders, and headaches. As physical therapists we treat only musculoskeletal conditions including headaches and generalized pain disorders. In western medical terms, Acupuncture stimulates the peripheral and central nervous systems and releases your body's natural chemicals (e.g. endorphins, anti-inflammatory substances) to relieve pain, stimulate healing and promote physical and emotional health.
Acupuncture is safe and effective when performed by a trained professional. It is less safe for those with a blood clotting disorder or on blood thinning medication and would require the permission of a medical doctor to be treated in this circumstance. If you are pregnant and interested in Acupuncture treatment you should inform your therapist and discuss whether it's the best treatment option for you. It is not contraindicated in pregnancy, but certain points should be avoided.
